The 1654 Society works to ensure that the future learns from the past by:
- Preserving the rich historic legacy of America's earliest Jewish community, and making its archives and treasures more widely available for public access
- Promoting awareness and understanding among the larger American public of the valuable contributions of the American-Jewish community in the development of this great nation from its inception
- Transmitting this legacy as an original, vital and continuous history which will continue to be a source of new intellectual capital and ongoing American civil involvement
- Providing a living link between the original 23 founders of the Jewish community, their many thousands of descendants, and the American leadership of today
